A 1999 randomized crossover study in 10 healthy men tested green tea extract providing 270 mg EGCG and 150 mg caffeine daily. Over 24 hours, energy expenditure increased by 4% versus placebo, while respiratory quotient decreased from 0.88 to 0.85, indicating greater fat oxidation. Equivalent caffeine alone did not produce these effects
